Camp Culinary had a wonderful time at the Boulder Farmers Market (BFM) doing demos and meeting so many wonderful people. But right now, we have a few other things cooking on Saturdays mornings. Be sure to check back with us in the Spring! 

In our absence, be sure to continue going to the BFM to keep you cooking skills sharp! BFM is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.

What makes a Camp Culinary demo different from all the other demos at the Boulder Farmers’ Market? 

We do more than just hand out samples of food, along with a recipe. It is our strongly held belief that recipes are useful but that learning method is much more important. We also gear all of our market demos around the seasonality of the farm fare, and even tackle some of the more unusual items that might be more difficult for folks to envision how to prepare, such as Egyptian walking onions, turnip greens and chicken livers. 

For example, one of our most popular demos every year is “Omelet Making and Egg Tasting.” 

Omelet Making
Every year, we walk the crowd through the method of making a French rolled omelet, cooking from scratch right in front of them, and answering their questions along the way. We demonstrate how an omelet is properly made; it should be light, fluffy and moist. After our quick demo, everyone is well on their way to whipping up a creation that would make any breakfast/brunch/lunch fan “egg-cited.” 


Egg Tasting
For the past three years, we’ve used eggs from four different sources. After making omelets with all four types of eggs, we do a blind tasting; no one will know which omelets are made with which eggs.  We always take some time to talk about the quality of each sample and then took a vote on which they prefer.

Over the last three years, here’s how the voting went. 
1)    Commercial eggs 24 votes @ 17%
2)    Cage-free organic eggs 42 votes @ 30%
3)    Backyard chicken coop eggs 18 votes @ 13%
4)    Boulder Farmers’ Market eggs from Wisdom Poultry 56 votes @ 40%
